Cultural Diversity Initiative

Citytv, a Citytv channel, proudly joins Praxis Centre for Screenwriters in establishing the Citytv Cultural Diversity Fellowships for the Praxis Screenplay Workshops and selected Praxis courses.

CKVU 13, a CityTV channel, proudly joins Praxis in establishing the CityTV Cultural Diversity Fellowship. In an effort to develop new Canadian stroytelling talent, and expand the pool of quality screenplays available to broadcasters, CityTV will support either an aboriginal or a visible minority* British Columbia-based screenwriter living in the lower mainland in the workshops, and in certain courses.

Feature Screenplay Workshops

Since 1986, the Praxis Screenplay Competition has brought hundreds of writers together with industry professional advisors in an intensive screenwriting workshop process.

In an effort to develop new Canadian storytelling talent, and expand the pool of quality screenplays available to broadcasters, Citytv will support either an aboriginal or a visible minority* British Columbia based screenwriter living in the lower mainland in the Praxis Screenplay Workshops.

The script selected for the Citytv Fellowship will be workshopped with a veteran writer, story editor, producer or director. We encourage submissions from filmmakers with strong, auteur voices representing a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.

Admission to the workshop is highly competitive. Feature film scripts of any genre will be considered. Scripts are judged anonymously until the last stages of competition. Applicants interested in the Citytv Cultural Diversity Fellowship must indicate their eligibility on the Praxis application form. Complete competition details and application forms are available  below.

The deadlines for the Praxis Screenplay Competitions are December 1st for the spring workshop, and June 30th for the November workshop. More Competition Info

Selected Praxis Courses

In an effort to hone specific screenwriting skills, Citytv will support a limited number of bursaries for selected Praxis courses. Writers who qualify for the Cultural Diversity Bursaries are asked to submit a letter of intent, in which they identify the course they're applying to and how they think they will benefit from it, as well as a brief professional bio or resume. Application deadlines vary from course to course.  See specific course information for full details.
